After losing to their bitterest rivals in the Super Clash last week, Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways Sunday afternoon by beating Young Apostles 2-0 at the Wenchi Sports Stadium in matchday 23 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The Porcupine Warriors delivered a decisive first-half performance, scoring twice within 10 minutes to take control of the match early on.
Johnson Oppong Owusu opened the scoring in the 6th minute, rising highest to meet Albert Amoah’s cross and directing a fine header into the left corner to give Kotoko the perfect start.
Ten minutes later, the visitors doubled their advantage through captain Samba O’Neil. His header, which took a deflection off a retreating defender, found its way into the net to put Kotoko firmly in command.
Kotoko had entered the game on a three-match winless run, including defeat in the Super Clash, and needed a response. They produced it in assured fashion, managing the game well after the early goals to secure all three points.
The result lifts Kotoko back into the top four, though they remain seven points behind the league leaders as the title race continues to take shape.
Young Apostles, meanwhile, remain locked in the battle to avoid relegation and continue to hover dangerously close to the drop zone. Enditem
