President John Mahama has summoned key security, aviation and port-sector institutions to a high-level meeting to review Ghana’s border-control systems and measures to combat narcotics trafficking, according to an invitation letter by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, on Monday.
The meeting, scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Jubilee House, comes days after French customs authorities seized nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine with an estimated street value of US$261 million from a container shipped from Ghana.
The meeting, according to the letter will examine gaps in border-control systems and identify practical measures to prevent the trafficking of narcotic drugs and other illicit substances.
French customs officers last week seized nearly 3.9 metric tons of cocaine with an estimated street value of 225 million Euros or 261.45 million U.S. dollars at the northern port of Dunkirk, the French organized crime prosecutor’s office said.
The cocaine was reported to have been concealed inside a container of plastic waste arriving from Ghana. The shipment was initially destined in part for Antwerp. Enditem
