NACOC intercepts 5 million tablets of Tapentadol in major drug bust

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a 40-foot trailer carrying a staggering 5 million tablets of Tapentadol 250mg in a major anti-drug operation.

The consignment, reportedly destined for the Niger Republic, was seized following a carefully coordinated intelligence-led exercise.

Authorities describe the bust as one of the most significant pharmaceutical drug interceptions in recent times, raising fresh concerns about the scale of illicit drug trafficking across West African corridors.

Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the shipment and are currently in custody assisting with investigations. NACOC officials indicate that the suspects are believed to be part of a broader trafficking network involved in the movement of controlled substances across borders.

Meanwhile, the agency has not yet disclosed the identities of those arrested but emphasized that further arrests are likely as the investigation deepens.

Tapentadol, a powerful opioid analgesic, is strictly regulated due to its high potential for abuse and dependency. NACOC has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying surveillance and enforcement efforts to combat the trafficking of dangerous drugs.

The Commission said it is also collaborating with international partners to trace the origin and intended distribution channels of the seized consignment, as authorities work to dismantle the network behind the operation. Enditem
