A group of newly posted teachers on Wednesday issued a one-month ultimatum to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to address delays in the issuance of staff IDs and the payment of their salaries, warning that failure to resolve the issues could lead to drastic action.
The 2024 batch of the newly posted teachers picketed at the GES headquarters over the non-issuance of staff IDs and up to 14 months of unpaid salaries.
According to the teachers, their documents could not be traced at the national office despite assurances from district and regional authorities that they had been duly submitted.
Convenor of the teachers, Daniel Aidoo, noted that the situation, which has persisted since 2024, has prevented them from being placed on the payroll even after receiving financial clearance and actively working in schools.
“Some of us haven’t been paid for 12 months, others for 14 months. All that we are demanding is that they give us our staff IDs and acknowledge us as teachers employed by the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service. We don’t want any back and forth. Whosoever is responsible for the issuance of our IDs should be held accountable,” said Aidoo.
“This cycle should not persist and affect others who will come after us. They gave us their word that they are here for us, so we should compile our documents and submit them to the National HR office. We also told them that if it is delayed, we will take action within one month,” he added. Enditem
