Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has his visa revoked by U. S. authorities, not merely his overstay in the United States, this is according to Dr. Dominic Ayine, Attorney General and Minister for Justice on Saturday.
Speaking on Joy FM’s news and analysis programme, Newsfile, Dr. Ayine disclosed that the U. S. authorities had initially given the former Finance Minister until November 29, 2025, to leave the country, but failed to comply.
According to the AG, the revocation of Ofori-Atta’s visa was deliberate and that it was connected to ongoing investigations and not a routing immigration issue.
He said, “This is not exactly about immigration. His visa is not expired. It expires in February. No, it was revoked. I am telling you this on authority.”
The AG explained that the U. S. authorities had initially planned to arrest Ofori-Atta on January 4 this year but had to do so two days later in Virginia and taken into custody.
He indicated that the extradition request submitted to the U. S. authorities is linked to investigations into the Office of Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) matter.
“I have been working with the Americans diligently on him, and the visa was revoked, and that is why he lost his immigration status in the United States,” added Dr. Ayine.
Meanwhile, lawyer for Ofori-Atta, Frank Davies has disclosed that the legal team of the former Finance Minister in the United States is working to resolve the immigration case swiftly. Enditem
