Former Health Minister and former Ledzokuku Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, has been elected the new New Patriotic Party (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Chairman.
Dr. Okoe-Boye secured 490 votes, defeating his main contender, Alfred Boye, who polled 172 votes—a winning margin of 318 votes in Saturday’s Regional Election held at the West African Examination Council (WAEC) Hall in Tema.
His election comes at a critical time for the NPP in the Greater Accra Region, where the party is seeking to rebuild its political fortunes after a significant setback in the 2024 general elections.
The NPP previously held 14 of the region’s 34 parliamentary seats but saw its number fall to five after the 2024 elections, resulting in the loss of eight seats.
The party’s poor performance in the region has heightened calls for stronger organisation, improved grassroots mobilisation and a renewed strategy to reclaim lost constituencies ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Dr Okoe Boye will therefore have the task of leading the regional party structure through this rebuilding process and working with constituency executives to strengthen the NPP’s presence across Greater Accra.
Okoe-Boye had pledged to adopt a data-driven and strategic approach to rebuild the NPP in Greater Accra and strengthen the party’s grassroots structures.
He replaces outgoing Chairman, Divine Otoo Agorhom who has held the position since 2018.
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman is responsible for coordinating the party’s constituency structures, mobilising supporters and overseeing the implementation of decisions taken by the party’s leadership.
Dr. Okoe Boye’s victory gives him a clear mandate to lead the NPP in the region as the party seeks to regain lost parliamentary seats and expand its support base ahead of the 2028 elections. Enditem
