The 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) officially begin across the country on Monday, according to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The examination is being conducted across the country by WAEC in thousands of centers with support from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Police Service.
In all, a total of 620,141 candidates from more than 20,395 schools are expected to sit for the examination this year.
Authorities and education stakeholders have urged candidates to remain confident and avoid malpractice.
It has warned invigilators and supervisors against aiding cheating. It has deployed security and logistics nationwide to ensure a smooth and credible process.
The BECE is a crucial national examination used to place students into senior high schools and technical/vocational institutions.
The examination, which starts on Monday, May 4, 2026, will run until May 11, 2026. Enditem
