Parliament says it is engaging officials of Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the Netherlands over the reported detention of Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, according to a statement late Tuesday.
In a statement signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Parliament confirmed the detention of the Independent MP.
Parliament explained the leadership is seeking for detailed information on the reported detention of the Ghanaian legislator from officials abroad.
“The Speaker and the Leadership of the House are in touch with Ghana’s Mission in the Hague for detailed information on the matter,” read the statement.
Meanwhile, Parliament has not disclosed the circumstances leading to the detention of the MP or whether any charges had been levelled against him.
Born on September 23, 1986, Hon. Frimpong entered Parliament on January 7, 2025, after securing victory as an Independent candidate in the 2024 parliamentary election snatching the seat from New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi.
