The police in the Ashanti Region have announced a temporary closure of some selected areas in and around the Manhyia Palace to pave the way for the celebration of the one-week funeral of the late Asantehemaa Nana Kondau Yiadom III, according to a statement on Tuesday.
The statement, signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Police Command, observed that the affected roads will be closed to traffic on Thursday, August 21.
“The Ashanti Regional Police Command wishes to inform the general public that selected roads in and around the Manhyia Palace will be temporarily closed on Thursday, 21st August, 2025, to ensure safety, smooth traffic management, and security during the one-week funeral celebration of the late Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III,” read the statement.
The roads to be closed to traffic, the police announced, include the Manhyia Bonjour Road (from Airport Roundabout to Manhyia Palace), the Sumankwahene’s Junction Road to Manhyia Palace, the Nick Petroleum Filling Station Road to Manhyia Palace, and the St. Ann’s Anglican Church to Manhyia Palace.
The rest are the Manhyia Government Hospital Road through Alaba, Yokohene’s Palace Street leading to the Palace, Hyiawuhemaa’s Palace Street, and the Nana Akwasi Agyemang Junction to the Manhyia Museum.
The police have consequently announced that commercial vehicles from Dichemso and Airport Roundabout and private vehicles coming via the Manhyia Bonjour Road will be diverted through Asawase Police Station and Kainako Road towards the Kumasi Central Mosque to access the central business district.
It also announced that traffic from 19 Steps Road near the Manhyia Roundabout through Alaba will be rerouted accordingly.
The police, however, emphasized that only invited guests and participants attending the one-week celebration will be allowed access beyond the diversion points.
It also announced some parking arrangements for government officials, chiefs and queen mothers, and members of the general public.
To facilitate the movement of people to and from the grounds, free shuttle services will be operated for the general public from the Asawase Methodist Park and the Central Mosque Car Park to the Manhyia Palace.
To ensure free flow of traffic, the police announced its personnel will be on standby to remove abandoned or wrongly parked vehicles to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
Meanwhile, the police have restricted the use of tricycles (Aboboyaa), rickshaws (Pragia), and motorbikes on the grounds to ensure orderliness and smooth traffic flow.
The police cautioned motorists and the general public to cooperate fully with its personnel to ensure smooth and effective traffic management during the one-week celebration of the late Asantehemaa.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, last week announced the passing of Nana Konadu Yiadom III at the age of 98 years.
The Asantehemaa was reported to have joined her ancestors on August 7, 2025. Enditem
