Thousands of Dutch fans packed out bars, cafes, and public squares to cheer on the Netherlands as they all but mathematically clinched their place in the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup following a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Sweden on Saturday.
Footage shows Oranje supporters gathered in high spirits ahead of kick-off at a fan zone in the city. Crowds cheered, danced, and waved flags, turning the area into a sea of vibrant orange as excitement built ahead of the next round.
The 2010 finalists secured an emphatic victory thanks to braces from forwards Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo either side of the break. Crysencio Summerville added a fifth late on to fire Ronald Koeman’s team within touching distance of the last-32.
The win leaves Sweden needing a result against Japan to guarantee their place in the next round, while the Netherlands take on Tunisia in their final Group F fixture.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, run from June 11 until July 19, will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. It is the first edition of the tournament with an expanded format of 48 teams.
