Russia does not pose a threat to Estonia or any other European nations, but it will always take the necessary steps to ensure its own national security, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Sunday.
“Estonia is very close to us, and we don’t threaten Estonia, just like any other European country,” said Peskov. “However, if there are nuclear weapons on Estonian territory aimed at us, our nuclear weapons will be aimed at Estonian territory.”
Peskov further noted that Russia “will always do what it must to ensure its own security, especially when it comes to nuclear deterrence issues.”
Peskov’s remarks followed recent comments by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, who said that Estonia does not rule out the deployment of nuclear weapons on its territory. Enditem
