Russia, U.S. destined to live in peaceful co-existence: Russian diplomat

Russia and the United States, as major global powers, are destined to live in non-confrontational peaceful coexistence despite their disagreements, said Russian ambassador to the United States Alexander Darchiev on Wednesday.

Speaking at a reception at the Russian Embassy, Darchiev emphasized the need for cooperation between the two nations.

“Despite the differences between our countries and the toxic legacy of the previous period, which Presidents Putin and Trump agreed to overcome through joint efforts, Russia and the United States are destined as great powers to non-confrontational peaceful coexistence,” he said.

The ambassador highlighted a newly opened “window of opportunity” for fully resuming interstate ties. This, he noted, would allow for the search for “solidary solutions to acute international problems and crisis situations.”

Darchiev also indicated that the style of communication between Moscow and Washington has moved from monologues to rather pragmatic yet difficult conversations.

In a separate statement, Darchiev assured U.S. President Donald Trump of Russia’s commitment to doing everything possible to restore Russian-American relations.  Enditem
