At least 14 people were killed and 20 others injured in a suicide bombing outside Kabal police station in Pakistan’s north-western Swat district on Sunday, according to local authorities.
Footage shows security personnel deployed around the blast site, damaged shops and residents gathered outside Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Hospital, where the wounded were taken.
“Young men are being killed, our children are becoming orphans, and our women widows, while the terrorists continue carrying out their bombings in the markets,” said Javed Khan, a relative of one of the victims.
Malakand Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Fida Hussain said the attacker tried to enter the station but was stopped by guards before detonating explosives at the main gate.
Dr Naveed Ahmed said the hospital received 32 injured people. He confirmed seven deaths at the time, while two patients remained in critical condition and were undergoing surgery.
Swat police official Muhammad Omar said the explosion struck near Kabal roundabout. He added that a human head, believed to belong to the attacker, was found at the scene.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and offered condolences to the victims’ families. They also called for the injured to receive the best possible medical care and pledged to continue efforts to eliminate terrorism.
