The campaign team of former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has endorsed former NPP General Secretary John Boadu for the party’s upcoming National Chairmanship position.
The endorsement was announced on Tuesday by the administrator of the Wontumi Campaign Team, Denise Okyere Danso, at a press conference in Accra.
The team said it had ended its independent campaign and would deploy Wontumi’s grassroots network, organisational structures and political influence to support Boadu’s candidature.
The decision followed consultations with grassroots members, party elders, constituency actors and other stakeholders, as well as a September 4 visit to Wontumi at the Nsawam facility.
According to the campaign, Boadu’s institutional experience and knowledge of the NPP’s organisational structures, combined with Wontumi’s grassroots mobilisation strength, could help strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The campaign has directed its regional and constituency structures, polling-station organisers, communicators and supporters who previously worked for Wontumi to now mobilise for Boadu.
The team also called for “unity without bitterness”, urging all candidates and supporters to avoid insults, intimidation and personal attacks during the internal contest.
Wontumi withdrew from the NPP National Chairmanship race on August 24, 2026, citing his personal circumstances and his desire not to become an additional burden to the party. His withdrawal left John Boadu, Paul Afoko, Boakye Agyarko and Sammy Crabbe as the four candidates who filed nominations for the position.
The NPP’s national executive elections are scheduled for October 3, 2026. Enditem
