There is uneasy calm among officers of the Ghana Prisons Service over the delay by the government to pay allowances for personnel with the service, according to a statement released here.
The statement, signed by the Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, expressed the concern of management about the hardship and anxiety among officers due to the delay in effecting payment to the eligible officers.
“The Prisons Administration wishes to address, with utmost sincerity and deep concern, the hardship and anxiety occasioned by the delay in the payment of non-salary related allowances to eligible officers,” read the statement.
“Management is fully aware of the real financial strain this situation has imposed on many colleagues and their families, particularly in respect of rental obligations, transportation commitments, and other essential domestic responsibilities,” added the statement.
According to the statement, the Director-General and the Prisons Administration have been engaging the relevant authorities at the highest levels of government through sustained follow-ups to secure the prompt release of the outstanding funds.
The Prisons Administration urged all affected officers to remain calm, exercise restraint, and continue to uphold the discipline, professionalism, and esprit de corps that define the Ghana Prisons Service. Enditem
