Donald Trump said he wished the new White House ballroom had been ready for Xi Jinping’s state visit, as he spoke in DC on Wednesday.
“We’re ahead of schedule. We just set the first column today. Take a look. And we’re very much ahead of schedule,”he told them. “The entire left portion, the north portion, has been built structurally. And it’ll start to be covered up now with very powerful glass. And it’s going to be something. And I wish we had it for tomorrow night because we’d be able to, you know, we have a packed house tomorrow night for President Xi and Mrs Xi.”
The project has seen repeated delays from legal challenges – which claimed Trump needed congressional approval to make the changes – but a divided Supreme Court ultimately backed him this month. It is slated for completion by August 2028.
