The University of Ghana (UG) has scheduled Monday, October 19, 2026, for students to report to campus and their respective halls of residence following the suspension of the nationwide strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), according to a statement on Friday.
The university, through its Business and Executive Committee, has revised its arrangements for the 2026/2027 academic year following disruptions caused by the industrial action, which affected preparations for the reopening of public universities.
According to the revised schedule, students are expected to report to campus on October 19, while a live random allocation of beds is scheduled for Friday, October 16, to enable students to secure accommodation.
Freshers’ orientation will take place from October 21 to 23, with lectures for the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year scheduled to begin on Monday, October 26.
The university has urged students to pay the required fees and complete their registration through its online platforms ahead of the commencement of academic activities.
The revised arrangements are expected to facilitate students’ return to campus and allow the university to resume preparations for the new academic year after the disruption.
GAUA strike and its impact
GAUA suspended its nationwide strike on Friday, October 16, following engagements with the Ministry of Education and assurances that its outstanding concerns would be addressed. Members of the association have been directed to resume work on Monday, October 19.
The association embarked on the industrial action over concerns about disparities in revised market premiums and related allowances between teaching and non-teaching senior staff at public universities. Enditem
