The Ghana Prisons Service has pledged to make public the findings of its investigation into an alleged attempt by some inmates to poison former Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
According to the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abdul Latif Adamu, investigations has commenced to establish the facts surrounding the allegation and determine whether any individuals were involved.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, October 28, he said the Service would release its findings once the investigation was completed to ensure the public was informed about the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
Mr Adamu explained that the allegation came to the Service’s attention through a senior aide to Chairman Wontumi Palgrave Boakye Danquah, who raised the matter after visiting him in custody.
According to him, the aide reported the issue to the Prisons Service administration, prompting an immediate response from the authorities.
“The issue came to our attention through his aide, who visited him. In the course of their conversation, the matter came up, and the aide quickly brought it to the attention of the Prisons Service administration. When we received the information, we immediately launched an investigation,” he said.
He added that the Service was committed to establishing the truth and ensuring that anyone found culpable was held accountable.
“Very soon, we will release the investigation report to the public so that everyone knows what happened,” he said.
Mr Adamu also assured the public that Chairman Wontumi was safe and in good condition while in custody. Enditem
