Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing with a state ceremony in Beijing on Tuesday.
Footage shows Min Aung Hlaing arriving at the ceremony venue before being greeted by Xi. The two leaders are seen walking along a red carpet and receiving greetings from schoolchildren.
The ceremony took place as Min Aung Hlaing began high-level talks with Chinese leaders during a five-day state visit scheduled for June 15-19.
China’s Foreign Ministry described the two nations as ‘traditional friendly neighbours’ and said Beijing looked forward to achieving more results through bilateral cooperation.
Chinese state media reported that Xi and Min Aung Hlaing witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements after their talks.
Beijing remains one of Naypyidaw’s largest trading partners and a key investor, particularly through projects linked to the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and the Belt and Road Initiative.
It comes as Myanmar continues to face security challenges following the military’s 2021 takeover and years of armed conflict.
