2 dead, 4 injured in crash on Accra-Kumasi Highway

Two people have been confirmed dead while four others are injured in a road crash involving a DAF truck, a VW Sprinter bus and a tricycle at Dr. Marbel Junction on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.

The accident occurred on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with the Suhum Municipal Fire Station responding to the incident shortly after receiving a distress call at about 11:21 a.m.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the victims comprised five males and one female, with one of the injured persons trapped under the DAF truck when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters used extrication equipment to free the trapped victim, who was subsequently transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical attention.

Preliminary investigations have indicated that the DAF truck, with registration number BF 1722E6, suffered brake failure, causing its driver to lose control and crash into the VW Sprinter bus, registered ER 195-24.

The impact subsequently caused the bus to collide with a parked tricycle with registration number M-25-AS 8071, resulting in significant damage to all three vehicles.

The two fatalities comprised one male and one female, while the four injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The Ghana Police Service was also present at the scene to assist with the response and investigations.

The Eastern Regional Fire Command has subsequently urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are regularly serviced and to exercise caution while driving to help prevent avoidable road crashes. Enditem
