Eight people were killed and 14 others injured in Ukrainian drone attacks on tourist sites in the Zaporizhzhia region overnight, the governor of the Russia-controlled part of the region said Saturday.
Two children were among those killed, and three other children were among the injured in the attack in the Melitopol urban district, Governor Yevgeny Balitsky said.
He said local authorities will provide all necessary assistance to the injured and the families of the deceased.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the Ukrainian forces’ strikes on civilian tourist facilities as a “terrorist” act.
“Targeting civilian populations is a typical tactic employed by terrorists,” she said.
Also, Russian air defense systems shot down eight guided aerial bombs and 1,060 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over the past day along the frontline, the Defense Ministry said on Saturday.
According to the ministry, Russian forces struck logistics centers, production facilities, storage sites for Ukrainian long-range drones, energy and transport infrastructure used by the Ukrainian armed forces, and other targets in 152 locations over the past day. Enditem
