CAGD to pay outstanding promotion arrears by Nov. 16 – GES

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Promoted teachers in pre-tertiary public schools who are yet to be placed onto their new salary levels will have their new status effected on November 16, the Ghana Education Service (GES) announced on Tuesday.

The statement, signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi, Deputy Director-General (Management Services) for the Director-General, said all outstanding arrears will be paid as well on the said date.

“Management wishes to inform all staff who are yet to receive their promotion arrears that efforts are being made in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to ensure that outstanding arrears are paid by November 16, 2026,” read the statement.

The GES explained that the CAGD system was closed for processing of end-of-October salaries when inputs were expected to be made.

It, however, announced the system will be opened from Wednesday, October 28, 2026, to enable all inputs to be made to facilitate payment to affected staff.

The GES further stated that all discrepancies identified in the payment made on October 16, 2026 will be rectified accordingly.

Pre-tertiary public school teachers embarked on an industrial action on September 25 over the failure of the government to place promoted teachers onto their new salary levels with arrears fully paid, the non-renewal of their expired collective agreement, and the non-implementation of the deprived area allowance.

After two weeks of no academic work in public basic and senior high schools across the country, the government met the teacher unions and agreed on timelines for the resolution of the matter.

The government, led by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, promised to place some 51,000 promoted staff onto their new salary levels with arrears fully paid by October 16 in which quite a number of the teachers were paid.

However, some 23,000 teachers were not placed on their new salary levels with arrears paid. Enditem
