By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Newly-promoted side, Basake Holy Stars, stunned Kumasi Asante Kotoko with a 2-1 defeat in an outstanding Ghana Premier League (GPL) at the AAKII Arena on Wednesday.

The two teams created decent opportunities in a balanced first half but failed to convert their chances. However, four minutes into the second half, Holy Stars went ahead through Richmond Somiah, who finished confidently to ignite the home crowd.

The visitors responded almost immediately as Kwame Poku struck in the 53rd minute to restore parity to give Kotoko a renewed momentum in their push for a comeback win.

Despite sustained pressure from Kotoko, Holy Stars held firm and delivered a late blow. Prince Tweneboah scored two minutes into added time to secure a dramatic victory and all three points for the hosts.

The results end the Porcupine Warriors’ unbeaten run in the GPL after 10 matches to the start of the season.

The win lifts Holy Stars to nine points, boosting their hopes of escaping the relegation zone. Kotoko remains fourth on the league log, three points behind the top spot, missing a valuable chance to close the gap. Enditem
