Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidates who contested the 2024 general elections on Thursday, formally declared their support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primary at the end of the month.
Addressing a press conference in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, the group, numbering one hundred and eighteen (118), observed that the decision was taken after extensive engagements amongst themselves and other stakeholders, and believes Dr. Bawumia is the best person to lead the NPP into the next general election.
According to the former PCs, Dr. Bawumia has proven himself to be a visionary leader with a track record of competence, integrity, and commitment to Ghana’s development.
“We have listened to key stakeholders in our various constituencies, including our Polling Station Executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, Constituency Executives, Former Constituency Executives, Council of Elders, and Patrons.
We have also listened to the youth; market women; our farmers and fisherfolk; business men and women; opinion leaders; religious leaders and traditional authorities and have come to the conclusion that there exist broad and overwhelming consensus that Dr Bawumia is best placed, amongst all the eminent personalities who are vying for the Flagbearer position of our Party, to lead our great Party into the 2028 General Elections,” said the group.

The former PCs said Dr. Bawumia has proven to be a visionary leader, with a track record of competence, integrity, and commitment to Ghana’s development, and that his experience as Vice President, coupled with his policy initiatives and innovative ideas, makes him the ideal candidate to lead the NPP to victory in 2028.
“We believe that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership will be a game-changer for Ghana, hence our decision to support his candidature. By so doing, we are committed to working with him in whatever capacity to achieve a brighter future for our dear country, Ghana,” added the group.
Delegates of the NPP will vote in a presidential primary on January 31 to elect a flagbearer to lead the party in the 2028 general election.
The declaration by the former PCs in the 2024 parliamentary election follows an earlier one made by some 63 NPP sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) last year. Enditem
