A convoy of fuel tanker trucks were set ablaze Thursday on a road linking Mali’s border with Senegal to the western region of Kayes, sources told Xinhua.
A local source in Kayes, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the attack occurred between Diboli and Kayes, adding that “dozens” of tankers were burned, but the exact number were not immediately available.
Malian security sources, also requesting anonymity, confirmed the incident and said assessments were ongoing, without providing an official count of destroyed vehicles or casualties.
The attack was claimed by the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims, according to the security sources. Enditem
