GRA interdicts five customs officers over transit cargo breaches

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has interdicted five officers of its Customs Division with immediate effect following alleged breaches in transit cargo procedures, pending the outcome of a full internal investigation, according to a statement late Tuesday.

The statement, released by the GRA, said the interdiction stems from preliminary findings of an enforcement operation conducted on February 18, 2026.

According to the GRA, the operation involved a consignment of transit cargo declared for onward movement to Niger.

Investigators uncovered discrepancies in documentation and non-compliance with established transit procedures, prompting a detailed internal review.

The GRA says initial assessments point to possible procedural breaches that require further scrutiny.

Management indicated that more officers could be invited for questioning if necessary, and appropriate disciplinary action will follow once investigations are completed.

The Authority emphasized that the action reflects its commitment to protecting national revenue, enforcing accountability, and maintaining professionalism within the Customs Division.

The GRA assured it remains committed to ensuring that revenue collection and enforcement procedures are executed with the highest standards of professionalism and accountability. Enditem
