The Democratic Republic (DR) of Congo joins nine African national teams to represent the continent in the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico in some 10 weeks’ time.
They won the African playoff and then qualified through the intercontinental playoffs, bringing the total teams representing the continent at the World Cup to 10.
This is the highest number of African teams ever at a World Cup, owing to the new 48-team format.
Here is a list of the 10 African countries that will be representing the continent at this year’s mundial.
From North Africa, the teams include Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia, while Senegal, Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Cape Verde are from West Africa.
The remaining two countries, including DR Congo and South Africa, represent the central and southern parts of the continent.
South Africa begins their campaign against one of the hosts, Mexico, in the opening match of the World Cup on June 11.
The final match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held on July 19, 2026. Enditem
