New petrol pricing window opens; motorists brace for hike

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Motorists across Ghana are bracing for higher fuel costs as the first petroleum pricing window for June 2026 takes effect today, with petrol and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices expected to rise while diesel records a slight reduction.

According to projections by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), petrol prices could increase by between 4.2% and 6.2%, pushing pump prices to around GH¢15.92 per litre. LPG prices are also expected to rise by up to 2.24%, with a kilogram likely selling at about GH¢17.30.

Diesel users may see some relief, as prices are projected to decline by between 1.65% and 2%, bringing the average pump price to about GH¢17.21 per litre.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has meanwhile revised its fuel price floors for the June 1–16 pricing window. Under the new benchmark, petrol cannot be sold below GH¢15.20 per litre, while diesel has a minimum price of GH¢15.49 per litre.

Analysts attribute the adjustments to changes in international petroleum prices, the depreciation of the Ghana cedi against major currencies, and modifications to government fuel-support interventions. Petrol support has been fully removed, while diesel relief has been reduced to GH¢1.07 per litre.

The latest fuel price outlook comes ahead of a planned 20% increase in public transport fares announced by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, which is expected to take effect on June 2, with operators citing rising fuel and spare-parts costs. Enditem
