Ghana to deploy 300 teachers to the Bahamas under education cooperation: FM

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Ghana will deploy some 300 teachers to the Caribbean Island of Bahamas this year under an education cooperation between the two countries, Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced in a post over the weekend.

In a message shared on his official X page, formerly Twitter, after attending the 53rd independence anniversary of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, the Ghanaian FM said the arrangement is the first phase of a new cooperation in education.

The new cooperation, according to the minister, is a result of the excellent work ethic demonstrated by Ghanaian nurses in the Bahamas under the existing agreement.

“I am delighted to announce that following official negotiations, the Bahamas is ready to receive 300 Ghanaian teachers this year to boost education in that brotherly and beautiful country,” posted Ablakwa.

He added, “The 300 Ghanaian teachers will usher in a new era of expanded labor mobility beyond health workers between our two nations.”

The FM highlighted the unbreakable ancestral bond the two nations share and stressed the cocoa-growing, gold, and oil-producing country will pursue impactful diplomacy that directly benefits the Ghanaian people.

Ghana and the Bahamas share a labor mobility agreement in October 2025 that allows skilled Ghanaian nurses and teachers to work in that country.

The two nations formalized the partnership through a memorandum of understanding to help the Caribbean nation solve its public health worker shortage while creating employment opportunities for Ghanaian professionals. Enditem
