The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is demanding the immediate release of member of the party’s communication team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, according to a statement by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on Sunday.
The statement follows the arrest of Mr. Aboagye at the Accra International Airport with no charges preferred against him.
The party is also demanding unrestricted access to his lawyers and family in accordance with the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
“The NPP demands that EOCO release Dennis Miracles Aboagye immediately, or charge him and put him before a court of competent jurisdiction as the Constitution requires. That he be granted unrestricted access to his lawyers and his family, without further delay. Article 14(2) of the 1992 Constitution is not a suggestion,”
The opposition party called on the government to end the pattern of politically motivated invitations, arrests and detentions targeted at members of the New Patriotic Party.
The General Secretary called on members of the largest opposition party to stay calm, lawful, and united. Enditem
