The prize money for the winner of the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be 2 million United States Dollars (USD), president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe announced on Wednesday.
The announcement indicates that the prize money has been increased by 100 percent while the total prize money for the tournament has been increased by 67 percent from 3,475 million dollars to 5.8 million dollars.
The prize money of the runner-up of the WAFCON has been increased by 50 percent to 750,000 dollars while the prize money of the 3rd Position has been increased by 43 percent.
Each of the 16 participating women’s national teams will receive 150,000 U.S. dollars in participation funding, an increase of 25,000 dollar or 20 percent from the 125,000 dollars received in the previous edition.
Since the current CAF leadership assumed office, the prize money of the winner has increased by 900 percent from 200, 000 dollars to 2 million dollars and the total prize money has increased by 495 percent from 975,000 dollars to 5.8 million dollars.
The number of women’s national teams participating in the WAFCON has also increased from 8 to 16. Enditem
