(Sports) Ghana govt released 4.990 mln U.S. dollars to support Black Stars in 2026 FIFA World Cup: finance minister campaign

A total amount of GH¢58 million or 4,990,669 U.S. dollars were spent on Ghana’s Black Stars during its participation at the just-ended 2026 FIFA World Cup, finance minister Cassiel Ato Forson said late Thursday.
Presenting the 2026 mid-year fiscal policy review of the government of Ghana for the 2026 financial year before the country’s Parliament, the minister said the expenditure formed part of the government’s approved spending to support Ghana’s campaign at the global tournament.
“To support Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an amount of GH¢58 million has been paid,” said the finance minister.
According to him, the disclosure was made in the spirit of transparency and accountability, as the government provided a breakdown of expenditure on key programs and sectors approved under the 2026 mid-year budget review.
The country’s senior male football national team, the Black Stars, made their fifth appearance at the World Cup held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana exited at the round of 32 after qualifying from Group L, comprising Panama, England, and Croatia. Enditem
