The European Union (EU) has congratulated Ghana and its two members, Germany and Ireland, on their election to the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council, according to a post on Wednesday.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the EU said the election of the West African country onto the UN body for the second time is in recognition of its commitment to multilateralism and human rights.
“Congratulations to Ghana and EU members Germany and Ireland on their election to the UN Human Rights Council for 2027-2029. For Ghana, this is a second consecutive mandate-clear recognition of its commitment to multilateralism and human rights,” read the post.
Ghana was re-elected to the UN Human Rights Council for another three-year term beginning January 1, 2027, according to a vote taken at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

The cocoa-growing, gold, and oil-producing country secured 173 votes out of 181 valid votes in the General Assembly to be re-elected.
In all, the General Assembly elected 15 states as members of the UN Human Rights Council. The Assembly re-elected Brazil, Burundi, the Dominican Republic, Japan, and Kuwait. Enditem
