Bilateral trade between China and Ghana reached an unprecedented high of 11.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, according to Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Tong Defa on Tuesday.
Speaking in the Ghanaian capital during the launch of 25 years of the Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA) under the theme “Marking 25 years of GHACHIFA and 65 years of enduring Ghana-China relations,” he observed that China remains Ghana’s largest trading partner and major source of investment.
Ambassador Tong emphasized that several Chinese companies have invested in various sectors of the Ghanaian economy, providing jobs and advancing industrialization.
“Our economic bond keeps strengthening. In 2024, bilateral trade reached an unprecedented high of 11.8 billion U.S. dollars, marking a year-on-year growth of 7.1 percent. Hundreds of Chinese enterprises have invested in sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, mining, aviation, green energy, and oil refining, creating substantial employment while advancing local industrialization,” he said.
According to him, the friendship between Ghana and China has flourished under the care of the Ghana-China Friendship Association over the past 25 years.
“Over the past 25 years, GHACHIFA, as one of the most influential friendly organizations and an important force promoting China-Ghana friendship, has gathered friends from all walks of life who understand and love China,” added the Chinese Ambassador.
He paid growing tribute to GHACHIFA for the tremendous successes chalked in the fields of the economy, culture, and education, making invaluable contributions promoting bilateral friendship.
In a statement read on behalf of Goosie Tanoh, Special Advisor to the Ghanaian President on the 24-hour economy, he observed that Ghana is on a path to economic transformation and disclosed the government will soon roll out various incentive packages to attract investors into the country.
He urged the Chinese to take advantage of the government’s flagship program to create wealth for their mutual benefit.
“The government is determined to transform the economy; we will soon roll out incentive packages, and I would like to urge our Chinese friends to take advantage of the 24-hour economic policy,” said Tanoh.
President of GHACHIFA, H.E. Anani Demuyakor, touted the remarkable successes chalked up by the Chinese in transforming lives and urged the West African country to take a cue from the Asian country.
“We should look at areas where the Chinese have done better and adopt them for our national development,” said H.E. Demuyakor. Enditem
