Construction of a one-million-dollar facility to train students from the University of Ghana in greenhouse farming to boost food security in the country is currently underway at the premier higher educational institution.

The project, which is being undertaken in partnership with Yan Li Quan Jack, a Chinese national, and the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, will involve the construction of a 100-bed accommodation for students and various structures for greenhouse farming.

Yan Li, president of the Northeast China General Chamber of Commerce in Ghana, told Ghana Eye Report upon a visit to the site that the project, when completed, will equip several students from the University of Ghana with the latest skills and technology in greenhouse farming.

He explained that the partnership will equip beneficiary students with the latest skills and technology to cultivate flowers and tomatoes in abundance.

The president of the Northeast China General Chamber of Commerce in Ghana stressed that there are plans to introduce modern ways of cultivating rice subsequently.

He commended the country’s political stability, which, according to him, provides a fertile ground for attracting several businesspeople into Ghana who will contribute to providing several job opportunities.

“I like this country because it is safe to invest here. It does not matter which political party is in power and which is out; this stability is good for doing business,” Yan added.

As part of a broader effort to boost food security, the Chinese President Xi Jinping recently announced the establishment of 10 greenhouse farms across Africa.
