An investigation board established by the government to probe the recent military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region early this month has commenced its work, confirmed a statement from the Ministry of Defence on Monday.
The statement, signed by Acting Defence Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, observed that the Board, chaired by the country’s National Security Coordinator Abdul-Osman Razak, has 30 days to submit its report.
Other members are drawn from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
“The Ministry of Defence hereby informs the public that the Investigation Board established to inquire into the recent Z-9 helicopter crash has formally commenced its work,” read the statement.
The statement announced that the United States of America is providing advice and assistance to the board through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force.
“The Board may also invite other relevant experts and institutions, both local and international, to assist with the investigation,” it added.
A military chopper crashed in the morning of August 6 at Sikaman, near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, killing all eight on board, including two cabinet ministers.
Immediately after the tragedy, a preliminary investigation team was constituted to gather all available evidence relating to the crash in support of the Board’s work. Enditem
