Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has publicly appealed for clemency from President John Dramani Mahama, while offering an unreserved apology for past remarks and actions he says may have offended the President.
Speaking in an emotional address, Chairman Wontumi acknowledged that some of his comments during the heated political campaign period were inappropriate and expressed regret over them. He appealed to President Mahama to forgive him, stressing that political rivalry should not translate into personal animosity.
“I sincerely apologise to President Mahama for any offensive remarks I made against him. I plead for forgiveness and ask for mercy,” said the incarcerated Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman.
The NPP regional chairman also called on Ghanaians to embrace peace, reconciliation, and national unity, urging political actors to place the country’s interests above partisan differences.
His appeal comes amid his ongoing legal challenges, which have attracted significant public and political attention. While it remains unclear whether his apology will have any bearing on those matters, the statement has generated widespread reactions across the political landscape.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has not yet issued an official response to Chairman Wontumi’s appeal. Enditem
