The 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season is scheduled to kick off on Friday, September 12, 2025, with a grand opening ceremony at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The opening ceremony, according to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), will be performed by President John Dramani Mahama.
Subsequently, the first match of the season will be played between Accra Hearts of Oak and the newly promoted side, Hohoe United FC.
In all, 18 clubs are expected to compete in 34 matches each, with the season expected to end on the weekend of May 23–24, 2026.
Bibiani Gold Stars SC are the defending champions, while Techiman Eleven Wonders FC, Swedru All Blacks United FC, and Hohoe United FC are the newly promoted sides to the country’s top-flight league.
The GFA has entered a landmark deal with Adesa Productions to handle full-scale production, management, and broadcasting of the GPL for the 2025/26 season.
The broadcast deal includes live matches, highlight shows, and other programming to increase visibility.
Domestic broadcasting and streaming will be done via TV stations and digital platforms, including outlets such as TV3, Onua TV, Adesa+, etc.
Under the Adesa Productions deal, every one of the 18 Premier League clubs will receive GH₵ 1,000,000 each before the start of the 2025/26 season. This is a guaranteed minimum under the new model.
Total from that upfront support to all clubs sums to GH₵ 18,000,000. Clubs also get additional financial rewards based on their final positions in the league table. These are part of the sponsorship and commercial model to encourage the competition.
According to the FA, the winner of the 2025/26 season gets GH₵ 2,000,000; runners-up GH₵ 1,000,000; 3rd place GH₵ 850,000; and 4th place GH₵ 750,000.
The GFA is distributing equipment as part of the package: boots and footballs. For example, 540 footballs (30 per club) and 540 pairs of boots across all GPL clubs, which are expected to help reduce setup and operational costs for the clubs. End item
