The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned staff to refrain from engaging learners in their household chores, according to a statement on Friday.

The statement signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi, Deputy Director General of the GES, stressed that the code of conduct of the service prohibits staff from engaging pupils or students in household chores.

The warning came amidst the recent allegations of sexual abuse by the headmaster of Obuasi Senor High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, of some 19 female students in the school.

GES urged staff to familiarize themselves with the code of conduct and to strictly adhere to its provisions.

“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) reminds all staff of the Service of the provisions of the code of conduct of the Ghana Education Service, particularly section 3.7 (v), which, among others, states that staff shall not engage pupils/students in household chores,” part of the statement read.

The Education Service reminded all staff to uphold the rights, dignity, and welfare of learners and ensure that their professional conduct conforms to the standards prescribed by the Service.

The GES management urged cooperation among its staff in promoting professional conduct and safeguarding the welfare of learners. Enditem
