TUTAG to consider strike suspension next week

The Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) will convene an Extraordinary Congress on Monday, October 26, 2026, to deliberate on proposals by the Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities Ghana (VCTU-G) towards suspending its ongoing industrial action, according to a letter on Friday.

The move follows an engagement between the leadership of TUTAG and VCTU-G aimed at resolving the outstanding issues that led to the strike.

In a letter signed by its General Secretary, Dr Francis Fonyee Nutsugah, TUTAG expressed appreciation to the vice-chancellors for their concern and commitment to finding an amicable resolution to the dispute.

The association said it remained committed to constructive dialogue and collaborative efforts to reach a mutually acceptable settlement.

As part of efforts to build consensus ahead of the congress, TUTAG has urged members of VCTU-G to engage the chairpersons of their respective TUTAG local chapters and persuade them to support the proposed suspension of the industrial action.

“We therefore consider it particularly important that the proposed engagements with the Local Chapter Chairmen take place ahead of Congress, to help build the necessary consensus towards a favourable outcome,” the letter stated.

TUTAG said the congress would provide an opportunity for its national executive to present and deliberate on the proposals and position outlined by VCTU-G.

The association also reaffirmed its appreciation for the vice-chancellors’ engagement and expressed optimism about continued collaboration to resolve the outstanding issues.

The meeting comes as the industrial action by university administrators continues to disrupt administrative services at public universities. Enditem
