Africa Governance Centre congratulates H.E. Dr. Fateh Boutbig on his election as President of the Pan-African Parliament

The Africa Governance Centre (AGC) congratulates His Excellency Dr. Fateh Boutbig on his election as President of the Pan-African Parliament for the 2026–2029 term.

Dr. Boutbig is a member of the Council of the Nation of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and has previously served within the Pan-African Parliament. He also serves as President of the Future Front Party, with experience in legislative and political leadership at national and continental levels.

The Pan-African Parliament remains a central institution within the African Union system, with a mandate covering legislative coordination, governance oversight, and institutional alignment across member states. Its effectiveness is shaped by the coherence of political systems at the national level and the capacity of continental institutions to translate shared priorities into coordinated outcomes. The conduct of the elections reflects the commitment of Member States to established institutional procedures and representative governance within the African Union framework.

The Africa Governance Centre recognises Dr. Boutbig’s contribution to the African Political Parties Initiative (APPI). His engagement within the African Political Parties Summit process contributed to efforts to strengthen the position of political parties within governance systems and to support their function in policy formation, institutional continuity, and long-term national direction. This work addresses a persistent gap across many African states, where the separation between political processes and governance outcomes has constrained institutional effectiveness.

Dr. Boutbig’s election reflects a wider shift toward stronger interaction between political leadership and legislative authority at both national and continental levels. The role of the Pan-African Parliament in supporting coordination across member states and contributing to more consistent governance approaches remains central to this process.

The Africa Governance Centre expresses confidence in Dr. Boutbig’s leadership of the Pan-African Parliament during his tenure. Enditem
