This year’s ban on drumming and noise making in Tema and its environs will be observed between the first and the third week of May, a statement from the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) has confirmed.
The statement, signed by the registrar, announced that the ban will take place between May 1 and May 23, 2026.
During the period, there will be no burial and funeral ceremonies and any form of noise making, the statement observed.
“The Tema Stool and Tema Traditional Council wish to bring to the notice of the general public (i.e., individuals, groups, institutions, churches, mosques, every social gathering, etc.) in the Tema Traditional Area that this year’s customary ban on drumming and noise making will take effect from Friday, 1st May, to Saturday, 23rd May, 2026,” read the statement.
Affected areas include Tema Manhean (Newtown) and all communities under Tema, Ashaiman, Zeenu, Kubekro, Adigon, Saasabi, Klangon, Adjei Kojo, Sakumono, and Adjeiman.
The Tema Stool/Traditional Council urged residents and various groupings in the catchment areas to comply with the directive to avoid confrontations.
The observance of the ban on drumming and noisemaking heralds the celebration of the Homowo festival. Enditem
