The Beninese government on Wednesday approved the national development plan for 2026-2035 during a cabinet meeting.
According to an official statement issued by the Secretary General of the Government of Benin, the plan aims to diversify the Beninese economy to increase the secondary sector’s contribution from an average of 16.3 percent between 2015 and 2024 to 21.1 percent.
The plan also seeks to reduce social inequalities, targeting a decrease in the Gini index from 34.4 in 2021 to an average of 30.
The development plan was further approved to ensure Benin possesses strong and efficient institutions, with the rule of law index expected to rise from 0.48 in 2024 to an average of 0.52.
Additionally, it aims to root endogenous cultures and moral values, ultimately setting Benin on a path of continuous development.
“The plan is structured into 17 priority areas over the next ten years,” the statement noted. Enditem
