The Black Starlets of Ghana lost by 1-0 to Cote d’Ivoire in the semifinal of the 2026 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B tournament at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso Tuesday evening.

Ghana played with 10 men after defender Daniel Owusu was shown an early exit for a tackle on Ivorian striker but managed to hold for a scoreless first half.

Despite their numerical disadvantage the Black Stars held their counterparts until the 76th minute when Alex Fousseni Bamba fired from close range to score the only goal of the match

Ghana will now play a third-place match as they failed to reach the final to pick one of the tickets of qualifying for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place in Morocco next year.

The Black Starlets were unbeaten in the group stages after picking seven points from three matches to finish top of Group A.

Ghana began the campaign with a 1-0 win over eastern neighbors Togo before defeating Benin 3-1 and played a goalless draw against hosts Burkina Faso in their final group game. Enditem
