The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has directed Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL) to suspend the proposed 0.75 percent proposed charges on wallet-to-bank transfers, a statement confirmed on Tuesday.

According to the statement issued by the Communications Department of the Central Bank, the decision follows the need to protect consumers.

“The Bank of Ghana informs the public that Mobile Money Fintech Limited has been directed to pause the implementation of its proposed 0.75 percent fee on direct wallet-to-bank transfers. The fee was scheduled to take effect on 1st June, 2026, but is now on hold to allow for further consultation,” read the statement.

“This decision reflects our commitment to ensuring that any changes to charges in the mobile financial services ecosystem are introduced fairly, protect consumers, and support their financial well-being,” added the statement.

Mobile Money Limited issued a communication to a number of customers announcing a 0.75 percent charge on wallet-to-bank transfers.

The announcement triggered conversation on social media and among the populace about the government’s decision to re-introduce the electronic levy introduced by the New Patriotic Party administration under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but was abolished by the John Mahama-led administration. Enditem
