Ghana has been given the rights to host the Confederation of African Football (CAF) U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 edition, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed on Monday.
According to the GFA, the decision was communicated to Ghana in a letter addressed to General Secretary Prosper Harrsion Addo by the continental football governing body.
“The decision underscores CAF’s strong confidence in the Ghana Football Association’s ability to organize and deliver a tournament that meets the highest standards of youth football on the continent,” CAF said in its letter to the FA.
The continental body assured it would work with the GFA and the soon-to-be-established local organizing committee (LOC) to ensure the successful planning and execution of the tournament.
The cocoa-growing, gold- and oil-producing country last hosted the competition in 1999, with the Black Satellites, the country’s male U-20 team, lifting the trophy. Enditem
