Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, said on Monday that despite the short reign of Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama as the king of Dagbon, it was very impactful.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the NPP Flagbearer to condole with the Royal Family and the people, he emphasized that Ndan Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II emerged as a king of Dagbon during one of the most challenging periods in Dagbon history; he guided the ancient kingdom toward peace, unity, and development.
“It is with grief that I send my sincere condolences to the chief and people of the Dagbon Kingdom on the passing of Ndan Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II,” said Dr. Bawumia.
He added, “His reign was very short but greatly impactful. Through his wise leadership, he united families once broken and healed a society greatly fractured before him. He represented a blend of tradition and modernity perfectly in the way he led Dagbon. He constantly advocated for and lobbied for major developmental projects in Dagbon.”
The former Vice President recounted how he drew guidance and wisdom from the departed Ya-Na during his time in office as the second gentleman of the state.
He described his passing as a great loss to him personally, to the Dagbon Kingdom, and to Ghana as a whole.
Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, who was enskinned as the 41st Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom in 2019 after 16 years of chieftaincy conflict, joined his ancestors on July 12, 2026. Enditem
