Carlos Queiroz, the newly-appointed coach for Ghana’s male senior national football team, the Black Stars on Wednesday named a 23-man squad for the team’s international friendly against World Cup co-hosts Mexico later this month.
The squad, released by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), is a blend of European-based players, emerging talents and experienced players with a focus continuity and development.
It also includes six home-based players who are excelling in the country’s top flight league, for Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The big names making a return to the squad are Majeed Ashimeru, Razak Simpson, and Birmingham City’s Ibrahim Osman.
Ashimeru, who plays for RAAL La Louviere in Belgium, returns to action after a long spell on the sidelines that limited his appearances at both club and national level.
Also in the team is Felix Afena-Gyan, whose last appearance for Ghana was in May last year when he featured against Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup in London.
Queiroz, who was appointed to replace Otto Addo is expected to use the match to assess depth within the squad and identify potential options for future competitive selections.
Ghana will take on Mexico on May 22 before coming up against Wales ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Enditem
