China-West Africa health summit to boost Chinese investment in regional healthcare

The upcoming third China-West Africa Medical and Health Summit and Exposition aims to promote greater Chinese investment in the region’s healthcare sector to improve medical services, Ghanaian officials have said.

Prince Dogbey, vice president of the Health Community of West Africa, a Ghana-based Chinese private institution that organizes the annual event, made the remarks at the launch of the 2026 edition on Tuesday.

More than 300 Chinese healthcare manufacturers have registered to participate in this year’s summit, which is scheduled to be held in Accra, the Ghanaian capital, in August.

“These companies are into medical manufacturing and medicine production, and we believe that West Africa can leverage partnerships with them to improve upon our health care services,” Dogbey said.

He noted that the previous two editions had already attracted Chinese healthcare investors, some of whom have successfully registered their products in Ghana and established a growing market presence.

According to him, China has gone very far in health technology, science, and research, offering valuable opportunities for knowledge transfer to help strengthen West Africa’s health sector and meet global standards.

As Ghana advances its plan to integrate artificial intelligence into its healthcare system, Dogbey said Chinese health technology companies possess the expertise and equipment needed to support the country’s implementation efforts.

Hafez Adam, technical coordination director at Ghana’s Ministry of Health, said the upcoming summit marks another milestone in cooperation between Ghana, China, and the West African subregion in advancing healthcare through innovation, investment, and strategic partnerships.  Enditem
