At least one person was killed and several others injured on Sunday in an alleged Israeli strike on the town of Az-Zawayda in central Gaza.
Footage shows a massive fireball erupting at the scene, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky. Civil defence crews battled the blaze as residents inspected the wreckage at a small displacement camp.
“Our hearts are already dead. We live without feeling or soul. Every day we face such things. For us, it’s over,” said Abu Ahmed, an eyewitness.
Another eyewitness, Nasser Hassan, claimed the Israeli military targeted an individual near the camp before phoning a resident and telling him everyone had to evacuate.
“An hour ago, as you can see, the targeted site was bombed and the entire camp was destroyed. The camp shelters around 100 people from a single family, and now they are scattered across the streets,” he added.
Palestinian media reported that Israeli strikes on Az-Zawayda and the nearby Nuseirat camp killed a child and injured seven others.
The Israeli military had not commented on the strikes at the time of publication.
The comes as Washington continues to push ahead with a plan to reshape Gaza’s security arrangements after the war.
In late July, President Donald Trump said the Board of Peace had reached an agreement on ‘disarming Hamas and armed groups in Gaza,’ with implementation to take place in stages.
The plan includes an Israeli withdrawal and the deployment of an international stabilisation force which, alongside a new Palestinian police force, would take responsibility for security in the enclave.
